NASA weekend 08/21

Wow what a weekend ! Qualified on the pole for Saturday's race and lead it from start to finish. Had a nice race with Jeff Emanuelson's blue M3 for the first five laps then was able to put some traffic between us between turn 4 and 5 and that was all she wrote.
Sunday was a different story. Started 3rd on the grid and worked my way up to first with and epic battle with Jeff . With 4 laps to go a 944 blew his engine in turn 3 and dumped oil all over the track. Here was the result

New Data acquisition

I recently purchased and installed a G2X data logger courtesy of OG racing and I am really looking forward to trying it out at my next event at Summit point in 2 weeks. The G2X came highly recommended from many fellow racers as you can track so many aspects of your driving with the software that is included. I will be giving a full write up and report after Porschefest.

And speaking of Porschefest come on out and see some beautiful cars, try your hand at autocrossing, or go for a ride at speed with one of the PCA instructors. Porschefest takes place at Summit Point on Saturday and Sunday August 14th and 15th. Good times and fun for the entire family.

PF 01 review

After using PF 97's for the last three years I tried using the new 01 compound for the front brakes of my car. My findings ? I think the 01's are VERY similar to the the 97's. There might have been a little more initial bite with the 01's but the overall feel is very similar. I have always liked the PF compounds since there is no real bedding in process compared to Pagid oranges. Put them on and forget about them. In speaking with with other 911 racers out there it seems that the PF product is the product of choice. And OG racing carrys the entire line :>)

Hyperfest !

What a great time. My car ran flawlessly all weekend and the new new front oil cooler
installed by Billy at Performance auto works successfully kept my
temperatures down in the brutal 95 degree heat. The weekend started off a little shakey
for me as I qualified 3rd for Saturday's race and ended up finishing 3rd in class and 3rd overall.

Sunday was a different story as I qualified 6th but got a tremendous start going from 6th to 2nd by turn 2. I had a great battle with Noel Hall for the first 4 laps until he spun in turn 1 and was never able to recover. It was a great day for me finishing first in class and first overall.

My sincerest thanks to Mark Francis at OG racing and his support over the weekend.

Next race VIR July 21st.

Hyperfest

Hyperfest is here ! Come on up to Summit point and watch the NASA races, the roll over contest, drifting, and of course the Daisy Duke's contest.
The festivities start this Saturday June 19th.

I'll be running in GTS 2 with all the Porsches and BMW's this weekend hoping that my new front oil cooler can keep my temperatures down in the 95 degree heat.

Hope to see everyone out there.

Safety first

Ok this one is for all those guys who are getting into DE and think the go-fast parts are the most important things you can spend your money on. Wrong ! After tracking cars for the last 6 years the more I race the more I realize I was crazy for ever being on the track without the right safety equipment. If I were to start over again I would have never gotten on the track without a roll bar or cage, a Hans device or similar neck protection system, a fire extinguishing system, and seats with 5 point harnesses.

I have seen enough track incidents where having the appropriate safety equipment can certainly save your life. And yes I have seen fatalities even at little old Summit point. So go to OG racing and talk to the experts, and start your track career with the right safety gear.

Possible custom chip

I've made an appointment with BEHE Performance who specializes in tuning cars for the race track. I spoke with John the owner and it is very interesting the approach they take compared to some of the off the shelf chip makers . Johns says they will remove the DME from the car, hook it up to their computers, and dyno it is as many times as needed while making slight adjustments so they can fine tune a chip that will optomize the performance of my engine. When they feel I've got the best torque/HP number they burn a chip especially for me. I am really looking forward to seeing what they can do.

Also a big shout out to my 2 biggest fans, My wife and daughter who were there to cheer me on to victories last weekend.

NASA 04/2010 Summit point

An absolutely fabulous weekend with NASA as I collected victories both Saturday and Sunday in GTS 2. The new paving on the track is wonderful and the only question that remains is , will it last ? After qualifying on the pole Saturday I ended up with a 5 second victory when the 2nd and 3rd place cars really battled it out and allowed me to pull away slowly in the 25 minute sprint race.

On Sunday I started 4th in the 40 minute enduro and made up 2 spots in turn one as a BMW appeared to miss a shift and I was able to go outside in turn 2 and settle into second place . After following Noel Hall in his 944 for 5 or 6 laps I was finally able to pass him in turn one with and inside move and beating him to turn 3 with my inside position . It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the race but I was able to hold him off by working through traffic successfully and finally taking the chequered flag ....

Looking forward to going to Watkins Glenn next month for the National PCA race.

See you soon...

test and tune

This thursday I will be doing a test and tune for the race car courtesy of Performance auto works of Summit point. I will be running the car with a new front bumper that will save me about 70lbs on the car. Hopefully the loss of weight will help my HP to weight ratio enough to give me a little better time around the track. I am also really looking forward to testing out the new pavement on the track to see what kind of difference it makes.

Anyone interested in watching some good, hard racing locally should go out to Summit point this weekend and watch the boys from NASA duke it out. Stop by the Allstate tent and say hello.

NASA VIR 03/2010

Well the first race of the year went fairly well. I set a personal best of 2:16 but ended up finishing 4th overall in in the sprint on Saturday. Those pesky M3's seem to have a little more tourque than me ( I know it couldn't be the driver ). On Sunday the rain held off all day until MY race started. I ended up finishing 4th again in a total deluge. I learned a lot though driving in a down pour ( mostly that I desperately need Hoosier rains )

All in all a great time hanging out with new found friends like Mark Francis from OG racing and Scott Leopold from Werkstadt motors. I am looking forward to April's NASA event at Summit point and trying out my new PF01 brake pads that I purchased from OG .
